Meet Virginia…

Golden Tiger Studio is the art studio of Virginia Upshaw — a painter, maker, experimenter, and firm believer that original art should feel alive.

Why Golden Tiger Studio Exists

I created Golden Tiger Studio as a way to share original artwork in a more accessible way.

I love artists. I follow a lot of them. I also know what it feels like to buy a small reprint of a painting you love and still feel like something is missing. Prints have their place, but there is something different about owning the real thing — the texture, the marks, the weird little decisions, the evidence that a human hand was there.

Artists create constantly. Experiments, studies, tests, one-offs, wild ideas, beautiful accidents — so much work lives in studios long after it’s made. Some of those pieces may not become part of a formal collection, but they still have life in them. They still belong somewhere.

That’s where Golden Tiger Studio comes in.

I want to keep creating, keep experimenting, and keep putting original pieces into the world at reasonable prices. If something I make speaks to you, you can own the actual piece — not a copy, not a clone, not a polished-to-death reproduction.

The world is moving fast and getting more digital by the minute. This is my small way of keeping things analog, tactile, imperfect, and made by hand.

Here is a Little More About Me

I love art, travel, strange adventures, good stories, and being surprised by the world.

I’ve kissed the Blarney Stone, watched the sun set from the Eiffel Tower, climbed volcanoes, had more than one helping of duck blood, welcomed the New Year on the St. Charles Bridge, called Italy home, shredded the powder at Blackcomb, snorkeled in Nassau, visited a giant metal Buddha, and swam with octopuses in Hawaii.

These days, I live in Nevada with my amazing husband, Michlele, (See what he does here.), and our two chaotic but adorable blue heelers, Lilu and Ozzy.

Thanks for being here. Take a look around, follow along, and maybe find something wild for your wall.
